John W. Welcome Image

Last year was a crazy, remarkable year of growth for our team... both in team numbers and in goal reaching. We set a record for company revenue. We landed some great partnerships. And we earned a "Best Places to Work" award too.

2019 is shaping up to being even better.

We set out this year with some ambitious goals. That's the way we like it around here.

One of those ambitions was launching our new product, Infegy IQ, the industry's best text analytics platform. We can say that because we believe it. You will too.

Along the way this year, so far, we've also added some new brand new faces to the Infegy team.

One such new team member is John Whitsell, who's joined us as a full-stack developer and all around maestro of computer science. He's here to help make Infegy products, like Infegy IQ, do amazing things with data that you never dreamed possible.

We'd like you to get to know John a little better, because, after all, without great team members, we can't make industry-leading social listening and intelligence platforms.

Here's a Q&A with our newest team member, John. He's got some very interesting perspectives:

Briefly describe your role with Infegy:
I am a full stack developer at Infegy. This means I will be working on everything from the front-end interface that the user interacts with to the back-end server where requests are processed.

Tell us a little about your background. Where’d you come from? What was your previous role and company and/or where did you you get your education/training?
I graduated from Full Sail in Orlando, Florida with a BS in computer science under the game development program. After graduating I worked for seven years in the simulation industry working on “serious games” used to train roles, primarily in the emergency management sector. Fairly recently I switched my focus from simulation to web development and have spent the last three years working as a full stack developer and AWS solutions developer before coming to Infegy.

What excites you about the company and opportunity?
I am the type of person that wants to learn new things and continually grow my knowledge and skills. There are many opportunities at Infegy to be exposed to new technologies, languages, etc. to do that. The company is also growing and has many opportunities ahead that I am privileged to be a part of.

What vision do you have for your role?
I don’t know that I have a specific vision for my role. I find the most satisfaction in my job when features I work on are useful and enjoyed by users. I hope to continue to grow in my role to be able to do that.

Do you have a career idol or person you follow that you look up to?
I’m not really the kind of person to have an idol. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses that we can learn from. I have had the privilege of working with many talented individuals and aspire to learn what I can from each of them.

Do you have a favorite inspirational quote about career, success, leadership, motivation or life in general that resonates with you?
“The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything.” - Theodore Roosevelt

What do you like to do in your free time? What are your hobbies, interests and favorite activities?
I have a hard time with free time because there are so many things that I want to do! I’m lucky to have a wife that enjoys playing video games with me. I also enjoy making games, lifting weights, running, and would like to get back into bicycling. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, family, and friends as often as I can.

What is the coolest place you’ve traveled to or most fun trip you’ve been on?
I went on a Caribbean cruise to several islands and Belize. During that trip I got to swim with stingrays, went parasailing, toured ancient Mayan ruins, rode jet skis in the ocean, and had a great time.

Where might you go for your company-bought trip after your first year? (yep, that's a thing 😉)
I think the first trip will be to the Philippines. My wife is from the Philippines and her family still lives there. We haven’t had a chance to go back and see her family since we got married and I want to do that. It is a beautiful country with some amazing geography and I would like to see more of it while we are there.
