Crafting Awesome Real-Time Social Insight Reports: The Step-by-Step Guide to Infegy Canvas

Every brand has a story waiting to be told.

The brand story can’t be written without the right data to guide it.

If you’re an analyst or strategist on a brand team, you know the importance of conducting accurate analysis. But you’re probably also far too familiar with how time consuming and complicated collecting and presenting that data can be.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Our one-of-a-kind reporting dashboard, Infegy Canvas, helps brand teams collect and present the data-driven story on key insights like brand analysis, competitive intelligence, consumer trends and more.

This is the official guide to Infegy Canvas, where you’ll get a step-by-step walkthrough on how to build a Canvas Report and get familiarized with some of its bells and whistles. First, we’ll briefly explain what Infegy Canvas is and how it can be used to help your team.

What is Infegy Canvas & How Can it Help Your Team?

If you’re new to Infegy or haven’t had an opportunity to experience Infegy Canvas yet, here’s the Cliff Notes version.

Canvas is an a.i. powered dashboard that allows analysts to build customized real-time, always updating social insights reports. It helps you apply data directly from our social listening tool, Infegy Atlas, used to research and analyze audience conversations from all across the web.

Infegy Canvas is the perfect solution to showcase insights in a fully customizable, flexible and branded format. Your clients or internal partners are able to view the most important components of your social insights on a daily, and even minute-by-minute, basis.

If you’ve ever spent hours on end trying to get graphs and charts into a PowerPoint, only to have to do it again-- and then again, and then again -- it will be a breath of fresh air to have an intuitive platform like this that will update the data on its own.

Then, you can present your analysis like a rock star to the people who matter.

Think of Canvas as a way to keep your stakeholders satisfied and in-the-know while you work to find even deeper insights.

Now, follow along to find out how to build the most compelling social insights dashboard using Infegy Canvas. We’ll start with step 1, determining your audience:

Step 1: Determine Your Audience and Story

Who will be looking at your dashboard? Your Canvas dashboard can be shared with your internal team or out to your clients, giving your audience up-to-the-minute data and insights into a brand or topic.

Do your internal stakeholders want the same data as your clients, or are there two stories to tell? This information will help you build your best Canvas, choose the best visuals to convey your message, and use the right imagery or logos to set the tone. You can also choose to have your dashboard password protected to filter who can view or edit it.

Knowing the story you want to tell with your Canvas dashboard, and who your audience is will guide you in building the perfect Canvas.

Here are just a few of the potential analyses that can be done and which can help you choose who your audience is:

  • Year over year look at volume, sentiment, emotions etc.
  • How a specific campaign is performing
  • Real-time look at customer journey metrics
  • Most discussed topics, brands, products, etc.
  • Competitive analysis and side-by-side comparisons

Next, we’ll look at how to start your Canvas:

Step 2: Template vs. Blank Slate

Decide if you want to start from a blank dashboard or a template.

If you’re a newer user, we recommend starting from one of our many pre-made templates.

If you’re a power user, starting from a blank Canvas might not be overwhelming. It’s up to you. Depending on what analysis you’re doing, it may make sense to choose a template because of the depth of options available.

It’s important to think about your objective for this dashboard before you select what you’re starting with. Our templates cover a wide variety of use cases, such as a brand analysis, competitive landscape, and topic deep-dives and more, with multiple options and styles for each.

These templates are able to be easily revised and give you a great place to start customizing.

Next, we’ll show you how to get started with finding the data for your report.

Step 3: Choose and Add Your Queries

Just like with searches in our social listening platform Infegy Atlas, you’ll need a search query to put your story on paper in Infegy Canvas.

We recommend creating and vetting your query within Atlas before you transfer anything over to Canvas. You can also save and import previously used queries. Once you’re comfortable with your query, or queries, it’s time to get started.

Common use cases for multiple queries include competitive analysis, year-over-year trends or a look at multiple topics in one dashboard. You can even put your queries on multiple pages in Canvas.

Pro Tip: reach out to our support team anytime if you’d like us to take a second look at your queries before moving on!

Step 4: Make an Impact with Visuals

If you’re using one of our pre-built templates, any image you see can be swapped for topic clouds, arc charts, graphs, etc.

If you want to replace, resize, recolor or remove any, have at it. The dashboard is your oyster! Simply click on the widget and all options to manipulate it will show up, or use the “+” icon to add new images.

Figure out what will illustrate your story the best with the imagery and widgets that are all pre-built into Canvas.

Almost all widgets can reflect any social listening metric you want to be highlighted, and as you become an expert story-teller, you’ll find out which ones you gravitate towards the most. As you explore all the widgets we offer in Canvas, our team is always available to answer questions on how to use them best.

Pro tip: Stack widgets on top of one another. This is a great way to show how your topic compares to the industry or your competitors.

Step 5: Customize it

Once your queries are added and widgets are in place, the fun part begins... customization!

It’s called “canvas” for a reason. Make this your own. Embrace your inner Picasso.

We can’t stress this next part enough: add logos and pictures. Set a theme including font, image colors, and even the size of your headings.

Make your story something your clients or team members are excited to look at. They want to see themselves as the centerpoint, and you don’t want to disappoint. If you’re not the creative type, feel free to reach out to us for help-- we’ve made a lot of Canvas reports ;)

Step 6: Show it Off

Are you ready for your client or colleague to read your story?

Send them a read-only link. They’re able to interact with at a high level, such as click on the links to posts or hover over charts and word clouds to see more granular metrics.

You can even password protect the shareable link to make sure only your favorite clients can see your masterful artwork. If you want to download your dashboard as a PDF, you always have that option as well.

And remember, your Canvas Dashboard can be used over and over again into the future without any heavy lifting. The data will update continuously until you make changes to your queries or widgets.
